California58 · Community Media Programs & Selected Work

Practical production and publishing programs for public agencies, nonprofits, schools, foundations, businesses and media partners. Choose a defined audience and set of deliverables; we will assess staffing, budget and feasibility. These are proposed services and partnership formats, not announcements of funded programs.

Multilingual Public Information

Help residents understand a defined public or nonprofit program. Deliverables can include source-checked explainers, interview videos, FAQs, captioned clips, newsletter copy and a campaign landing page. English and Russian are the starting languages; additional languages require qualified reviewers.

Measurement: Approved materials delivered, publication dates, measured page visits, video engagement and tracked outbound clicks. Service uptake is reported only when the partner can supply reliable data.

Rural Community Information

Create practical information packages for a specified California community: public-service directories, meeting explainers, local interviews and printable resource sheets. Each project defines its geography, sources, review dates and update period.

Measurement: Verified resources, completed updates, distribution records and measured readership. A digital edition is a publishing channel, not proof of local staffing or audience size.

Community Events & Oral Histories

Record interviews, public conversations, cultural histories, educational events and community gatherings. Agree the recording plan, participant permissions, captions, edited films, transcripts and archive handover before production.

Measurement: Completed interviews, delivered recordings, accessible versions and documented attendance when available. Livestream engineering and event organization are separately scoped.

Nonprofit Impact Storytelling

Document a funded program through participant interviews with consent, staff interviews, photography, progress stories and an annual-report media package. Keep participants’ accounts distinct from independently established program outcomes.

Measurement: Delivered assets, approved usage rights and sourced program facts. This is communication and documentation, not an independent audit or impact evaluation.

Digital Publishing & Accessible Content

Develop or improve WordPress information pages, resource directories, newsletters, campaign content and reusable publishing templates. Captioning, transcripts, alt text and plain-language editing can be included in the scope.

Measurement: Agreed pages and templates delivered, editorial workflow documented and specified accessibility checks completed. Formal accessibility certification or a compliance guarantee is not included.

Ongoing Content Desk & Media Partnerships

Provide a monthly production service for organizations or other newsrooms: interviews, short videos, photographs, newsletter material and website updates. Alternatively, discuss licensing specified original material or commissioned reporting with rights agreed in writing.

Measurement: A defined monthly quantity, deadlines, review rounds, delivery formats and usage rights. Paid placement, production fees and advertising spend are quoted separately; favorable independent coverage cannot be purchased.

Selected published work

These are independent editorial work samples. They are not claims of paid client engagements, institutional endorsement or independently measured social impact.

Expert interview: Chip Yates at Inyokern Airport

California58 published an on-camera interview conducted by Vitaly Ataev Troshin on October 31, 2026, together with an English feature and contextual source links. Demonstrated capability: expert interviewing and multimedia storytelling about technology and a local community. Read the feature and watch the interview. Interview participation is not a commercial endorsement.

Community event: Halloween in the Hangar

The published Inyokern event report combines a local story, event information and a linked photo gallery. Demonstrated capability: packaging community-event information and visual references for publication. View the published example. This example does not establish that California58 organized the event, produced its livestream or measured attendance.

Public-service explainer: reporting air pollution

A source-linked California58 guide explains agency jurisdiction, complaint documentation and public-records follow-up. Demonstrated capability: making complicated public procedures easier to navigate. Read the guide. It does not establish environmental testing capability.

Contract, sponsorship or grant partnership

A commercial contract purchases defined services. A grant partnership requires an eligible applicant, an approved public-benefit purpose and the funder’s rules. Fiscal sponsorship is considered only where permitted and agreed in writing. Each project needs its own budget; the same expense cannot be charged twice. Russian California is the operating sole proprietorship behind California58; the brands are not represented as separate nonprofit entities.

Commissioned communication is separately identified when published. Clients may approve their commissioned deliverables; they do not control independent newsroom coverage. Our California focus can support suitable US projects and remote assignments elsewhere, subject to confirmed resources.

Western US, Alaska & Hawaii projects

We welcome inquiries from Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington State, Alaska, Hawaii and other US states. Suitable assignments include on-location interviews, event documentation, documentary and cultural storytelling, nonprofit communication, community information campaigns and production for local media partners. Travel, crew, equipment, permissions and delivery dates are confirmed in the proposal.

Remote services can include editing, scripts, campaign pages, newsletters, graphics and adapted content. Russian-language, Ukrainian-language and other multilingual projects are considered with qualified language professionals and editorial review arranged for the assignment. A language request is not a claim that a full production and translation team is already available.

Engagement options include a single field assignment, ongoing content production, a subcontract for a local lead organization or an eligible public-benefit partnership. Grant eligibility is assessed separately for applicant location, beneficiary geography and partner rules. Service availability does not imply local offices, local certification or past contracts in every named state.

Project teams & independent production partners

We can assemble assignment-specific teams of independent journalists, camera operators, photographers, editors, producers, designers, developers, translators and subject-matter specialists. The founder’s professional network includes colleagues from the California Local News Fellowship. Each person’s availability, qualifications, role and fee must be confirmed before they are named as committed personnel. This does not represent a university partnership or endorsement by the fellowship.

One designated project lead coordinates delivery and quality review. Written scopes address outputs, milestones, payment, confidentiality, permissions, usage rights and review rounds. Subcontractors are disclosed or submitted for client approval when the solicitation or agreement requires it. We can lead a suitable production, join a prime contractor’s team or work with local specialists in another state.

Budgets account for specialist fees, project management, travel, equipment, translation, accessibility review, licensing and agreed revisions. Student participation, where appropriate, includes experienced supervision and quality review; it is not a promise of unpaid labor. Team scale and geographic reach depend on confirmed personnel, funding and the requirements of each assignment.
