EARLIER NOVEMBER 4 SNAPSHOT.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, California — November 4, 2026. Sheriff Robert Luna holds a substantial lead over former Sheriff Alex Villanueva in the countywide election, according to a preliminary reporting snapshot published by NBC Los Angeles.
The reported vote
Luna received 1,330,743 votes (68.53%), compared with 611,041 (31.47%) for Villanueva in the results available during this reporting check on November 4. The margin was 719,702 votes. NBC News marked Luna as its projected winner; this is a news projection, not the county’s official certification of the election.
Why the result applies countywide
The sheriff is elected by voters across Los Angeles County, not only in the city of Los Angeles. The Sheriff’s Department provides law-enforcement services to many unincorporated communities as well as contract cities. The countywide result therefore belongs in the Los Angeles County newspaper, while individual cities may link to the county report without reproducing the article.
Ballot counting continues
The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk said it would continue around-the-clock ballot processing through Friday, November 6, with additional results releases. Remaining valid ballots can change totals even when a projected result has been announced. Final statewide certification is scheduled for December 11.
