CALIFORNIA58 TRAVEL · Updated October 17, 2026. Independent visitor guide. Ticket offerings and prices are subject to change; check the seller before paying.
San Diego combines waterfront history, large animal parks, science museums, beaches and family amusement destinations. But its popular attractions are spread across the city, coastal North County and the inland region. A good ticket bundle must match both the places you want to visit and the distances you are willing to travel. Here is the practical, source-checked guide to the 2026 San Diego CityPASS, with sample trips, real prices and a clear answer to when individual admissions may be smarter.

What San Diego CityPASS sells in 2026
San Diego CityPASS currently offers three formats: a SeaWorld San Diego entry plus three participating attractions; a LEGOLAND California entry plus three attractions; or both theme parks plus three attractions. Under the current program, you choose the other three from a published list of six, with San Diego Zoo and Safari Park counting as an either/or choice, not two independent selections.
- SeaWorld San Diego + three attractions: $169 per adult age 13+ and $149 per child age 3–12.
- LEGOLAND California + three attractions: $186 per adult and $166 per child.
- Both SeaWorld and LEGOLAND + three attractions: $239 per adult and $219 per child.
- CityPASS lists a further $2 processing fee per ticket. These amounts and participating attractions were checked October 17, 2026; verify at checkout.
Tickets run for nine consecutive days from first use or earliest qualifying reservation. You do not have to visit every venue in one day. This flexibility is a reason to plan a realistic week rather than a hectic one-day ‘savings challenge.’
Choose your main park: SeaWorld, LEGOLAND or both
SeaWorld San Diego sits near Mission Bay. The published included ticket covers one-day entry to the park’s animal exhibits, presentations and rides described by the seller, with park offerings subject to operations and weather. It is a logical anchor for travelers staying near Mission Bay, Old Town or the central beach communities.
LEGOLAND California Resort is in Carlsbad, roughly 30 miles north of downtown San Diego as the crow flies; actual driving distance and time depend on your start point and traffic. CityPASS describes a one-day theme-park ticket that includes SEA LIFE Aquarium. LEGOLAND requires a reservation through the CityPASS process; confirm opening days and age or height limitations for favorite rides.
Buying both can be reasonable for a family trip with four or five full attraction days. It is harder to justify if you are in San Diego for only a weekend, dislike amusement rides, or want to spend most of your time outdoors and at the beaches.
Six participating additions: what you actually get
San Diego Zoo or San Diego Zoo Safari Park. This is one selection. The Zoo is in Balboa Park close to central San Diego and suits travelers combining animal habitats with museums and gardens. Safari Park is in the Escondido area, much farther inland, with a different landscape and tram experience. Choose on geography, temperatures and what your group wants to see; buying a pass does not automatically give entry to both.
USS Midway Museum. A historic aircraft-carrier museum on the downtown waterfront. The included admission covers core galleries, historical interpretation and an audio tour as described by CityPASS. It pairs naturally with nearby bayfront walks and other downtown activities; plan enough time to explore multiple decks and consider stairs and accessibility routes.
City Cruises Best of the Bay. A narrated sightseeing trip on the water. CityPASS lists a 90-minute cruise and currently requires a reservation. Schedules and weather can affect departures, so book before finalizing a very tight itinerary.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps. A coastal science and marine-life venue in La Jolla with exhibits and educational programming. It may be especially attractive to families that prefer a calmer museum visit to another ride day. Opening times and events vary.
Old Town Trolley Tours. CityPASS describes a one-day hop-on/hop-off experience with multiple stops and reboarding. It can simplify orientation for first-time visitors, but it does not replace all public transport or cover every beach and attraction. Check the current route and tour calendar.
Maritime Museum of San Diego. A collection of historic vessels along the Embarcadero. This can combine with the Midway for an entire maritime-history day. Visitors interested in ship design, navigation and regional history often find a deeper experience here than a quick photo stop.
Three sensible itineraries that reduce backtracking
- Three-day first visit: Devote one day to SeaWorld (if purchased), another to Balboa Park and San Diego Zoo, and another to USS Midway plus a bay cruise or Maritime Museum. If you omit SeaWorld, spend your extra day in coastal neighborhoods and beaches.
- Five-day family holiday: Visit LEGOLAND on its own North County day; SeaWorld on another; spend one day at the Zoo; make downtown waterfront venues a separate day; and reserve one flexible day for beaches, Old Town or La Jolla.
- Zoo and nature priority: Choose between San Diego Zoo and Safari Park based on logistics. Pair the central Zoo with Balboa Park. Give Safari Park enough time and plan for warmer inland weather.
Free and separately ticketed San Diego experiences
A pass is optional in San Diego. Balboa Park’s public grounds, certain neighborhood walks, waterfront promenades, beach visits and scenic views can be low-cost ways to spend an outstanding day, although parking and individual museum admissions may apply. La Jolla Cove, Sunset Cliffs, Coronado and Old Town offer experiences that are not automatically included in CityPASS. State and city park rules, wildlife distance requirements and shoreline conditions still apply.
What is the real savings test?
Do not use CityPASS’s maximum advertised percentage as your expected savings. The official calculation compares a chosen package with a seller-defined collection of box-office prices, not with every possible discount available to your family. Make a shortlist of your chosen anchor park and exactly three additional activities. Check current admission for adults, children, students, residents and seniors, then compare the total to the bundle including the processing fee. For an example, a group focused on a Zoo day, free beaches and one museum may spend less buying separately than purchasing a four-stop bundle.
A note about passes marketed for all Southern California
San Diego CityPASS and Southern California CityPASS are different products. The regional ticket can combine Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Universal Studios Hollywood and two eligible southern California attractions, such as SeaWorld, LEGOLAND, Zoo or Safari Park. It usually makes sense only when your trip genuinely covers multiple counties and parks. Do not confuse it with the regular San Diego bundle, and check the regional ticket’s different 14-day validity rules.
Reservations, location and family logistics
- LEGOLAND and City Cruises currently require reservations; review additional attraction-specific policies before visiting.
- Confirm whether the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park works better for your group. The pass does not include both as separate selections.
- Account for downtown San Diego, Mission Bay, La Jolla, Carlsbad and Escondido as different destination zones rather than neighboring stops.
- Parking, theme-park upgrades, special events and food generally need their own budgets unless expressly included.
- Children’s age thresholds vary by attraction even when CityPASS uses standard child categories.
- Check wildfire, heat, wind or coastal weather alerts on the travel day and consult each operator for schedule changes.
Practical recommendation for three traveler types
Families with school-age children: if LEGOLAND or SeaWorld is a must and at least three other participating venues are definite, the bundle deserves careful comparison. History and science travelers: the Zoo, Midway, Maritime Museum and Birch Aquarium are attractive, but the required park anchor may add cost you would not otherwise spend. Weekend beach travelers: often best served by buying a ticket or two separately and leaving time for the coastline.
A last check before paying
Build your itinerary first, check reservations and opening hours second, calculate actual savings third, and only then buy. Prices quoted here are a dated snapshot, not a rate guarantee.
