DEL NORTE COUNTY, Calif. — Residents of Crescent City, Klamath, Smith River, Fort Dick and other North Coast communities can sign up for official emergency information through a county-wide notification system.

The local alert service

The Del Norte County Office of Emergency Services describes its Community Alert System, powered by Everbridge, as a way to contact large numbers of residents quickly when safety is affected. The Prepare Del Norte website, operated for the county’s emergency services office, provides a registration entry point and explains that alerts can arrive by phone, text message or email.

Having a registration option does not mean every incident will trigger a county alert. Residents should also pay attention to official instructions on the ground, local radio, and alerts sent through public warning systems.

How to get ready before a storm or earthquake

People who move or change phone numbers should verify their registration details. Household members should talk about how they will contact one another if ordinary phone service fails, where they will meet and how they will respond to an evacuation message.

Del Norte’s mix of coastal communities, major river valleys and mountain roads means that one county-wide event may affect neighborhoods differently. A warning aimed at a particular area should be read for its precise location and instructions.

The county emergency services office lists its contact address as 981 H Street, Suite 240, Crescent City, phone 707-464-7255. In an immediate emergency, call 911.
