UPDATED NOVEMBER 5 — FOURTH INYO ELECTION-NIGHT REPORT. Yes is ahead of No on the Mesa Community Services District fire-protection parcel-tax Measure Y by just two votes, according to the later 12:13 a.m. November 4 county report. The revised snapshot shows 44 Yes (51.16%) and 42 No (48.84%), or 86 valid votes on this local question. The first 8 p.m. report, preserved below as a historical snapshot, had Yes ahead 41 to 38, a three-vote margin. The difference has narrowed as more votes were counted. No one should assume the measure has passed: the governing district’s legally required tax approval threshold and final canvass both matter. The county registrar expects another ballot-count release November 6 and lists thousands of unprocessed ballots countywide, not all of them necessarily cast in Mesa. Source: fourth unofficial report.
Earlier first-report figures, retained for context
MESA COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT, Inyo County — November 4, 2026. One of the smallest local measures in California’s election returns involves a fire-protection parcel tax for the Mesa Community Services District. In the earliest published tally, 41 ballots supported Measure Y and 38 opposed it, a margin of just three votes.
What the first report shows
The Inyo County semi-official results at 8 p.m. November 3 listed 41 yes (51.90%) and 38 no (48.10%), for 79 ballots on Measure Y. It listed zero of one precinct reporting, meaning these were only already processed early votes.
Not a city mayor election
Mesa is an unincorporated community. The Community Services District administers designated local services, and this proposal concerns a fire-protection revenue mechanism. It does not elect a mayor or create a municipal council. Legal implementation also depends on the measure’s exact text and required approval threshold; 51.90% yes should not automatically be described as passage.
A three-vote difference can change quickly
With Election Day precinct ballots and later qualifying ballots outstanding, the initial gap offers no basis for declaring Measure Y approved or rejected. The Inyo County Elections Office is responsible for official canvassing and later releases.
